  1. Hi Linda, it is difficult to tell house sparrows apart – at least the males anyway! Photo E is a dunnock – this bird used to be called a hedge sparrow until they found out that it actually isn’t a member of the sparrow family at all. If you look carefully you can tell that it’s bill is finer and it’s sort of speckly! It is mainly a ground feeder and fairly solitary. Think it’s just found in europe, so you won’t have come across it before.

  2. Hi Helen, Great post! I sure do not know the answer about the other name for a House Sparrow. I learned the dominance sign from you on a recent post. I have a hard time distinguishing all the various sparrows one from another as many are quite similar. Have a wonderful weekend!
